What stays on your device
Your game progress (ash, shop ranks, unlocked rigs, bestiary and Ledger entries, audio and aim settings, and your leaderboard name if you chose to enter one) is saved in your browser's local storage. It is not sent to a server unless you submit a leaderboard score. Clearing site data for riftspinner.com deletes it.
The optional leaderboard
If you type a name on the Boards screen, then when a run ends we receive that name, your chosen rig, the wave you reached and your kill count, and store them in a score file on our web host so they can be shown publicly on the leaderboard. Only enter a name you are happy to show publicly, and do not use your real name or any personal details. Leave the name blank and nothing is sent. To have an entry removed, email us the name and rig and we will delete it.
To stop abuse we briefly keep a one-way hash of your IP address together with submission times for up to one hour. The raw IP address is not stored in the score file.
Our web host's logs
Like any website, our hosting provider (IONOS) processes standard server logs, including IP address, browser type and requested pages, to deliver the site and keep it secure. We do not use these logs to identify individual players.
Advertising and cookies
This site uses Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-8373960482385467) to show ads on some pages. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies, and your IP address and device data, to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where permitted. We do not receive your personal data from this and we do not control the cookies Google sets. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
Your choices. Where required by law (for example in the UK and European Economic Area), you will be asked for consent through a consent message before personalised ads or non-essential cookies are used, and you can change your choice later using the privacy and cookie settings link that message provides. You can also opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or block ads and cookies in your browser. The game itself works without ads.
Legal basis and your rights
For the leaderboard, our basis is your consent when you enter a name; you can stop at any time by leaving the name blank. For ads and cookies, the basis is your consent where the law requires it. Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Contact us using the email above.
Children
Riftspinner is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has submitted a name to the leaderboard, email us and we will remove it.
