Riftspinner controls
Every key, button and option for playing Riftspinner your way.
PLAY FREE IN YOUR BROWSERRiftspinner is played on a desktop or laptop with a keyboard and mouse, and a gamepad works too. Every key below can be changed in the Accessibility screen. This page lists the defaults.
Default controls
| Action | Default keys | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W A S D, the arrow keys, or the numpad (8 4 5 6 or 8 4 2 6 with Num Lock on) | Numpad 7, 9, 1 and 3 move diagonally. All of them work at the same time. |
| Aim | Mouse | Auto-aim (C) points at the nearest host for you. On a gamepad use the right stick. |
| Fire | Hold the left mouse button | Or click once to start and again to stop, or switch to automatic fire in Accessibility. |
| Dash | Space, Left Shift or Numpad 0 | Also the middle mouse button, or A or the left trigger on a gamepad. A short burst of speed, then a cooldown. |
| Inspect the nearest drop, shrine prompt, mission totem or forge | E or Numpad Enter | Or click the prompt at the bottom of the screen. |
| Salvage the nearest drop for ash | F or Numpad . | Scraps it without opening the compare card. |
| Status screen | Tab or Numpad + | Live stats, worn gear and your pack. |
| Pause | P, Numpad − or Esc | |
| Previous weapon | Q or Numpad ÷ | Keys 1 to 4 and the mouse wheel also swap between carried weapons. |
| Toggle auto-aim | C | |
| Mute sound | M | |
| Pick a level-up mutation | 1 to 4 | Or click the card. The numpad 1 to 4 also work on that screen. |
| Loot card | Enter equips or swaps, S stashes, X scraps, Esc closes |
Mouse-only play
You can play with the mouse alone. In Accessibility, set Mouse movement to Follow cursor and the spider walks toward the pointer, stopping when the pointer sits on it. Or choose Hold right button to move only while that button is down. The left button fires, the middle button dashes and the wheel swaps weapons. The Mouse only preset also turns on automatic fire and auto-aim in one click.
Keyboard-only play
The Keyboard only preset turns on auto-aim and automatic fire, so the movement keys and dash are all you need. Menus work with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter and Space, and Esc always goes back.
Fire modes
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hold | Fire while the left button is held. The default. |
| Click to toggle | One click starts firing and the next click stops it, so you never hold a button. |
| Automatic | Fires whenever a host is on the map. A melee rig swings only when something is in reach. |
Gamepad
Any standard controller works. Connect it and press a button.
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Left stick or d-pad | Move. The stick is analogue: push gently to walk slowly. |
| Right stick | Aim |
| Right trigger or right bumper | Fire |
| A or left trigger | Dash |
| X | Inspect (drop, mission totem, forge) |
| Y | Salvage the nearest drop |
| Start | Pause |
| Back | Status screen |
| Left bumper | Previous weapon |
| In menus | The d-pad moves focus, A selects and B goes back |
Remapping keys
Open Accessibility from the main menu or the pause screen and scroll to Key bindings. Each action has up to three slots. Click a slot, then press the key you want. Backspace clears a slot and Esc cancels. A key can belong to only one action, so binding a key takes it from any other action. The number keys 1 to 4, Esc, the function keys and the Alt, Ctrl and Meta keys are reserved. The briefing screen and the tutorial always show your own bindings.
Melee rigs
Bulwark, Harrow and Gyre use the same controls but swing instead of shooting. Fire swings the weapon toward your aim. Gyre's blades orbit all the time, and holding fire spins them wider and faster at the cost of some speed. See the rigs guide for how each plays.
Accessibility options that change the controls
Game speed (100%, 85%, 70% or 50%), a large crosshair, high contrast, colour-blind colours, interface size, reduced motion and screen reader announcements are all in the same screen. The accessibility statement lists everything, including the limits.
